Surgical Scousers was started in 2005 by Peter Orton and Andy Pillai, two medical students who felt that they (and other budding surgeons in the medical school) would benefit from extra-curricular activities that would give them a better understanding of what a career in surgery entails, opportunities to improve their CV and a firmer understanding of the principles and practice of surgery.
Since then it has grown from a group of a few dedicated senior medical students to a large university society with a busy lecture timetable, sizeable financial turnover and an annual national student surgical conference.
